BeSafe Haven! Prva ergonomska nosiljka iz BeSafea.
Nisam ju još imala u rukama i zbunila me na prvi dojam.

Mogla bih ga usporediti s Tulinim.

Basic su sivi i crni modeli a oni malo živopisniji Premium.
Hvala uvozniku i distributeru Mikroedri d.o.o. na ukazanom povjerenju i prilici.
BeSafe Haven review
This is going to sound familiar for those who listened carefully at our group lesson held at the end of July:
BeSafe Haven! First ergonomic carrier from BeSafe!
I still haven’t had the chance to see it in person, and my first impression is a bit off, confusing. The carrier has a thick panel, zippers, an innovative buckle from which the straps are pulled in the direction from which the webbing comes in (unlike the usual opposite direction), an airbag inside the waist belt that inflates and provides a better position when the baby is forward-facing-out.
I believe you are stuck on this belt, which looks like it came right out of the cartoon Surogat (1961.)
Shortly after I have posted this in my FB group, Haven came in, even though at the time, instructions for the carrier weren’t yet finished, nor did this carrier had pockets sewn into the waist belt.
You can use Haven in three positions: two positions for front carrying and one position for back carrying.
Material is very comfortable. Carrying in Haven was great even during summer heat. The inner tencel layer was a perfect choice for this carrier.
The panel is thick, but regardless of that, it is very soft and gentle to the touch due to well chosen materials.
The waist belt is strong but not too hard. I could compare it with Tula’s waist belt.
— On the belt you can find a buckle you need un-buckle using two hands.
There is a valve on the outer side of the waist belt and an Airgonomics airbag on the inner side.
—- Valve
—- Under the zipper, on the inner side of the belt, you can find a pocket from which you can pull out the deflated airbag and prepare you carrier for a wash.
There should be two more pockets for small things (credit cards, money, etc.) on the inner side of the waist belt, but since this is one of the first BeSafe’s Haven carriers, there are no such pockets.
—The difference between inflated and deflated waist belt
What’s really great is that the waist belt can be inflated in just one breath and deflated by a single press of a valve, but because of this pandemic situation, I would prefer if we don’t have this carrier in our library, since it’s not very hygienic to use it without any air pump between different people in a single meet up. Including an air pump in the package would be very handy.
—Inflated waist belt provides stable and secure seat that looks like so-called “hip seat”.
The waist belt should be inflated for back carrying (I find it interesting that the instruction manual says the back carrying is for children older than 9 months), and for children older than 4 months for front outward-facing carrying (I recommend waiting until your baby can sit up unassisted for FFO).
—- The straps. Back/chest strap slides very easily but it seems to be too short.
This isn’t a carrier for newborns but for infants above one month of age. Until the infant is 8 months old, Haven should be carried with crossed straps, even when the baby is forward-facing-out. If you want to front carry your baby with parallel straps, you may be surprised to see how short the back/ chest strap is.
— Crossed shoulder straps are very close to the neck but that didn’t bother me, while the straps deform when they are worn parallel („H“).
—-When you carry your baby in forward-facing-out position, the shoulder straps need to be gathered above the panel, which for you have a button and a button hole on the shoulder straps.
For carrying the baby in forward-facing-out position, you need to open the panel using the zippers on the top of the panel and on it sides. The zippers are very well integrated, all the stitches on the carrier are perfectly sewn and I can’t see a way for a baby to get scratched by it, or hurt in any other way.
—- For carrying the baby in forward-facing-out position, you need to open the zipper on the panel which will narrow the base and then rotate baby’s hips forward.
—-Forward-facing-out position with a demo doll in the size of a 4-month-old infant.
While crossing the shoulder straps, make sure that the straps don’t get stuck under the chest straps. It won’t be uncomfortable if it happens, it is just aesthetically unpleasing.
—-Unfortunately, the instruction manual doesn’t show this simpler and safer way of adjusting with just one shoulder strap attached. It would be easier for the first-time parents/ caregivers.
I tried wearing Haven with shoulder straps both being crossed and paralle, to see how the baby would be positioned in the carrier.
—-On the left: with crossed shoulder straps. On the right: with parallel shoulder straps.
With crossed shoulder straps, the baby has a better support and the carrier doesn’t pull the weight forward.
—-Haven with parallel shoulder straps
I gave Haven to a mom who has a different body shape to mine, to try out the carrier. It’s easier to jump over me than go around me, unlike this mom who is tall and slim with shoulders a bit wider than mine. Regardless the instruction manual, Haven fitted her perfectly with parallel shoulder straps, but her 3-month year old daughter was a different story.
—-With a 3-month year old girl, Haven should be worn with crossed shoulder straps and deflated waist belt. The mom tried it with crossed shoulder straps and inflated and deflated waist belt.
There is always a “but”. After I tried the carrier with the demo doll following the instruction manual, I decided to see what would happen if someone would try putting a real baby in the carrier without reading the instruction manual.
With a healthy baby that is average in size, a well adjusted carrier behaves well. But, if the baby has any issues, such as the ones with a hypertonic (stiff, spastic) muscle tone, it would be immediately visible if the carrier isn’t well adjusted.
The baby that I was testing the carrier with, has hipertonic muscle tone, and like with any baby that has this issue, they don’t need much of a bad stimulation so it would be visible in baby’s posture and movements. Parallel shoulder straps were not a good choice for that baby and it got worse with an inflated waist belt. With inflated waist belt, the baby was forced to sit up.
—-BeSafe Haven with deflated (on the right) and deflated waist belt (on the left).
When the waist belt is deflated, the baby was relaxed and well positioned. With inflated waist belt, the baby was twisting, she tried to pop the seat, straighten her legs and spread her arms. I really hope parents will read the instruction manual.
I have also noticed that the panel’s base, while it is completely spread, suited the 3-month old. This is a small carrier intended for children up to 15 kg of weight.
—–Haven with my 2,5-year-old.
Of course, I have tried out Haven with my child who weighs more than 15 kg. Carrying was surprisingly comfortable until he started turning around. I didn’t feel like he could easily throw me off my balance, but the panel yawned on its sides as he leaned over and the shoulder strap deformed. I don’t see how anyone can carry a 3-year old in Haven unless the child is very light, calm and small in stature, even though BeSafe claims you can.
With back carrying I had one more problem: removing the carrier. Trying to loose the buckle on your back is very hard with one hand. I don’t see how an average parent could do this without a second pair of hands.
Regardless of being hard to unbuckle, the buckle itself is innovative because it needs to be tighten in the opposite direction than you would usually expect or than in the direction you would usually tighten on other soft structured carriers.
—The new addition is a large innovative buckle Flex-Shape Buckle.
—Tightening with large innovative buckle Flex-Shape Buckle
Releasing the strap is also a bit challenging while the baby is forward-facing-out, because you have to push the panel away from you, with the baby in it.
Because of this buckle, I actually think that this carrier is not based on today’s soft structured carriers, which are mostly one-size, modular, with a lot of adjustments and possibilities.
––Forward-facing-out with a demo doll in the size of a 4-month-old-infant
Haven is a BeSafe’s way of getting closer to baby-carrying with a very simple „click-clack carrier“ and for most parents who won’t carry their newborns due to their fear and insecurities, or even a 1-year-old or on their backs. I see Haven in a bundle package with a car seat, in fact, that would be very convenient because that would bring baby-carrying closer, maybe even to that parent, who didn’t really have any idea that, at least sometimes, having a baby near him/her would be practical, snugly and bonding.
For the innovations, Flex-Shape Buckle and Airgonomics airbag, BeSafe won Red Dot award for design.
