Prvi susret s Miminim radom opisala sam ovdje.

Nisam si mogla pomoći- odabrala sam upletene resice.

Inače sam zazirala od resa svih tipova sve dok me Mima nije razuvjerila.

Tka i šalove, stolnjake, izrađuje zidne instalacije… Za više informacija posjetite i njezinu stranicu Mima Handwovens.

I podsjetio me koliko sam bila oduševljena kad sam shvatila da mogu spojiti ljubav, strast i praktičnost: šalove, marame i nošenje beba! Hvala Mima!

This time I have the pleasure of reviewing a custom handwoven wrap made just for me. Milana (Mima) Latinović can weave a babywearing wrap in any given length and width, and offers a wide range of custom details like a differently colored hem, handpainted weft and warp, various blends, GSMs and weaves. Even the middle marker can be custom made (embroidered, sown or woven), and there is the option of fringes. Everything is made according to the buyer’s wishes, with the weaver’s personal signature remaining intact.
I’ve chosen the twill variation heart weave, which is very light and airy, with visibly different textures of the right and wrong side. Additionally, I couldn’t help opting for the fringes. This year fringes are very popular on handwoven wraps. They drape beautifully and add to the overall appearance of the wrap. I just had to try them! I was initally apprehensive of all types of fringes until Mima convinced me to give them a try. I was afraid they would get entangled and make the wrapping difficult, but now I can say I was pleasantly surprized by them.
I chose the wrap’s colors according to the colors NASA telescopes display when photographing the known universe. Mima even got the exact shades. The basic colors are blue, purple, yellow and a bit of red (which is more of a neon orange) that just pops up as an trace color. I was so impressed by the final product that I got the design transferred onto my nails at the salon Nails by L.
The wrap produces a very large knot, which is to be expected from such a dense weave (~350 GSM), but that gives me the opportunity to experiment with sling rings and knotless finishes.
The wrap excells in both single and multipass carries. Each pass is easily tightened, slides into place and supports the baby’s weight without creating slack during wearing. It is forgiving with very sloppy wrapjobs. What immediately catches the eye is just how wonderfully the wrap pleats iself.
This wrap inspired me to experiment, and in the end I invented an entirely new carry based on rearranged DSS2S: Adrian’s (Ruckless) Carry.
It is simply a very odd coincidence that the American company Mad Hatter Warped & Woven published photos of a wrap similar to this one just weeks after Mima had published her first photos.
Thanks to its convenient length of 3,4m, I can wear my wrap as a scarf. Do you do the same with your shorties?
If you’ve ever dreamt of a certain texture and colors on a unique wrap that wraps perfectly without the need for breaking in, or if you want a keepsake from your babywearing days to be handed down to your grandchilden as a legacy wrap, you might want to consider ordering a custom woven wrap. It is well worth the money and it’ll always be there to remind you of the time your children were the most adorable.
Mima truly is an artist of the weave. She also makes scarves, tablecloths, wall tapestry etc. For more info visit her web page Mima Handwovens.
